Not Your Average Book Musings

 I'm typing this from my phone because I debated on feeding this blog today (I know, I know) but I haven't finished the book yet. I just got to volume three and there's so much I already want to say so here it goes. I absolutely love this book so far. The family dynamic between the Bennetts are hilarious. The teasing of the parents especially made me cry with laughter.  I genuinely don't get how people see this book as boring. It's got almost everything readers love! Gossip, family behaviors towards the other, drama (so much drama!), the mother who's dramatic about everything, the lies and deception, and the reveling of beef between certain characters, and the beloved Enemies to Lovers arch! It's all there! Not to mention this book is absolutely relatable to this day and age. Passages that I will keep forever, how to reject a man and still sound classy as hell doing it.  This will be typed from my phone. I had to wait like a day or two to see if I could get my thoughts in order about this particular book. It was another one that came up on my For You page. The reviews were quite...spot on. Which is almost rare for a book because everyone interprets things differently. This book almost broke me.  It was about an 8 hour audiobook from Libby, one of the few which I could find at my current library but that didn't prepare me at all. Aside from the vague reviews, I went into this book blindly. That was prolly my first mistake. See, I thought it would list a couple of reasons. Maybe like, 10-15 and talk through them. Hahaha... absolutely not.  It was 99. 99 chapters, 99 reasons to not trust your own brain. He questioned everything. Everything you could possibly imagine, from how humans worked, to how advertising worked, to 99 different biases we all fall into.  I'm writing this from my computer originally but we'll see if that's a mistake or not because my computer is not friends with my wifi currently.  I've heard the facts, the stories, the myths and rumors about our American Education System. The word that is usually followed is "trash". Quite a bit of it is. I knew it was flawed and very likely outdated, I knew good ol' George owned Slaves, I knew Columbus didn't actually discover shit - or at least anything good. And I knew what we did to the Native Americas. I also listen to Baliey's Dark History pretty frequently. I also know we're still illegally occupying Hawaii. My condolences to y'all.  Been needing to get my thoughts straight on this for a while, and didn't realize it until I was talking about this with a friend. He was comparing today's world with the world of 1984. This will be my proper response to it. I'm writing this from my computer. I read this book back in high school, because see, we never read Pride and Prejudice or the Great Gatsby. We read books like Into the Wild, Lord of the Flies, 1984 etc. I hated it when I was in high school. I think I was just taking too much to the surface then. I thought about how ridiculous the book was and how ridiculous everyone was being about this book. I think the point I was trying to get at back then was that it takes a lot of man power the government simply didn't/doesn't have to just watch everyone continuously.  Now this was a phenomenal book. My hot take is that I liked this book better than the Handmaids Tale. I'm writing this from my phone. When I first started listening to it, I knew it was what I hoped to get from the Handmaid's Tale. It had different perspectives so I could really get an inside scope on this. I had always wondered about the kids. Kids are naturally curious. They're gonna ask questions as to why things are the way they are. I enjoyed the dynamic between the three girls. I had no idea Gilead had child marriages. It was shocking news.  Before this book I had some big questions regarding the kids. The Marthas were also interesting characters. They were almost like nannies. I thought the book with the first child was absolutely beautiful. I had a hunch she was the daughter of our girl in the first book. What really got me going was what came after. Aunt Lydia. In the first book, she was portrayed as a villain and I had to stop myself from mentioning her previousl...

 This book gave me a lot to think about but I'm choosing to go deeper. Now on the surface this is about women's rights. I'm not here to diminish that  and I'm not here to argue that. The main focus are women's rights. These are just things I'm noticing beyond that. This is with from my phone I haven't really watched the show so I'm basing everything from the book.  The first scene that really got to me is Luke. He's well intentional, and don't get me wrong, he still ran with our MC. But when she lost her job, she was devastated and scared. When she told him what happened, I felt like him optimism was was blind to her needs. He kept saying "We'll be okay", "This sucks but we'll get through it," and the statement that take got to me was this: "You know I'll take care of you both," I wanted to say that's not the point.  Some of these posts I'll be doing on my phone and some I'll do on my computer. This one is from my phone.  So often I find myself needing to talk about what I've read. I try to be an avid reader and I'm getting back into the hang of it. I don't have very many reader friends. The two I do have, I cherish our literacy conversations strongly. They're quite busy sometimes and I have one where this friend won't talk about a book he didn't like in order to "keep the peace." I've tried to convince him to allow us to talk about it but he won't. He's well read. I ponder all these musings to myself and sometimes to others , though not in the amount I want. I'm not here to sway people one way or the other. I'm not here to say I'm different from the others, not do I think myself better than others. These will just be my thoughts to jolt down.
